API terms of use

Applies to every endpoint under /api/v1/. Last updated July 2026. The embeddable widgets have their own short terms on the widgets page.

1. Free, keyless access. The API is free for commercial and non-commercial use, with no key or registration. In return you accept these terms every time you call it.
2. Attribution is required. If figures from this API appear anywhere users can see them — an article, app, tool, spreadsheet export, screenshot — you must display the attribution that ships in the response (attribution.html): a visible, clickable link to the source calculator, e.g. Data by <a href="https://themotorcrunch.com/car-financing/auto-loan-calculator">MotorCrunch</a>. The link must not carry rel="nofollow" and must not be hidden, collapsed or rendered off-screen. Internal, non-published use (testing, private analysis) needs no attribution.
3. Rate limits. 60 requests per minute per IP. Responses carry X-RateLimit-* headers; exceeding the limit returns HTTP 429. Results are deterministic — cache them. Sustained abuse may be blocked.
4. No resale or impersonation. You may not sell access to this API, offer it as your own API, or present its output as your proprietary model. Building products on top of it is fine — reselling the pipe is not.
5. Estimates, not advice. Every figure is an estimate produced by standard published formulas (see methodology). Nothing returned is a quote, an offer of credit or insurance, or financial advice, and you must not present it as such. The API is provided “as is”, without warranty; our full disclaimer and site terms apply.
6. Changes. Endpoints are versioned under /api/v1/. We may fix bugs and refresh underlying data at any time; breaking schema changes get a new version. We may update these terms — continued use after an update is acceptance.
